On the morning of December 18, 2025, Officer Alex Steven Thibert of Thief River Falls was injured in a traffic collision while on duty in Reiner Township, Pennington County. The incident occurred at the intersection of Highway 1 and 400th Avenue NE under snow- and ice-covered road conditions. Thibert, operating a Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet Tahoe squad vehicle, was positioned in the eastbound lane while responding to an unrelated crash when a Dodge Grand Caravan traveling eastbound struck the parked squad vehicle.
Both drivers were transported to Sanford Emergency Room in Thief River Falls with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities reported that no alcohol was involved and that weather and road conditions were contributing factors. Officer Thibert, 32, sustained injuries while performing his duties at an active scene, a circumstance that underscores the routine exposure to risk faced by law enforcement officers during roadside response in winter conditions across northern Minnesota.
