Hector Julian Zavala Montero Killed in Suspected DUI Crash on North Big Spring Street in Midland, Texas – September 5, 2025

On September 5, 2025, a fatal collision occurred in the 4400 block of North Big Spring Street in Midland, Texas. The Midland Police Department reports that a 2024 GMC pickup, driven by 42-year-old Tommy Torres Mendoza, was traveling north at a high rate of speed when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on before rolling over. The crash happened just south of Loop 250 at approximately 1:55 a.m.

The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Hector Julian Zavala Montero, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mendoza sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized. Authorities suspect alcohol was a contributing factor, and charges against Mendoza are pending as the investigation continues.
