On January 29, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision occurred along Interstate 55 near the 9-mile marker in Marion, Arkansas. The crash took place at approximately 7:48 a.m. under clear skies, though the roadway was reported to be icy. Authorities stated that a 2017 Freightliner merging from a rest area was struck from behind by a 2019 Freightliner traveling northbound. The impact forced the second vehicle across cable barriers and into the southbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2006 Honda Accord.
Ronnie Black, 50, of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, was identified as the driver of one of the northbound commercial vehicles and sustained injuries in the crash. Emergency personnel transported the injured to Baptist for treatment. The incident resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, and it remains under investigation by the Arkansas State Police.
