Sergeant Keith Gasco Shot During Spencer Standoff in Massachusetts on February 3, 2026; Millbury Officer Recovering from Gunshot Wounds
On February 3, 2026, Sergeant Keith Gasco was shot during an armed standoff at a shopping plaza in Spencer. Gasco, 37, a 14-year veteran of the Millbury Police Department, was part of a regional tactical unit responding to a suspect connected to an earlier shooting. Authorities reported that the suspect barricaded himself inside a Family Dollar store and exchanged gunfire with officers. During the confrontation, Gasco sustained gunshot wounds. His injuries were later described as non-life-threatening.
The suspect was fatally shot after firing at officers. Gasco, who joined the department in July 2012 and was promoted to sergeant in 2024, has long served on the SWAT team affiliated with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. A native of Millbury and graduate of Millbury High School, he also served in the United States Marines prior to his law enforcement career. His identity was publicly released several days after the incident as he remained hospitalized and in recovery.
