Wes Dainty Found Dead in Miami, Oklahoma Jail on February 3, 2026; OSBI Investigation Underway

On February 3, 2026, Wes Dainty, 34, of Fairland, was found unresponsive inside his cell at the Ottawa County jail in Miami. District Attorney Doug Pewitt confirmed that Dainty was discovered hanging during a routine 7 a.m. bed check. Jail staff immediately initiated first aid and summoned emergency medical services. Dainty was transported to INTEGRIS Baptist Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Dainty had been in custody since Jan. 8 on domestic assault and battery charges filed in July 2025. Authorities stated he had failed to appear in court and was arrested on a bench warrant. According to officials, he was alone in his cell during the 6 a.m. check and appeared to be sleeping at that time. The death has been referred to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for further review. The body was transported to the Tulsa Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death. Investigators have indicated that the death is not believed to be suspicious.
