Sergeant Lee Sorensen Killed in Domestic Call Shooting in Tremonton, Utah

Sergeant Lee Sorensen of the Tremonton-Garland Police Department was shot and killed on August 17, 2025, while responding to multiple 911 hang-up calls related to a domestic dispute at a residence near 700 North and 200 East in Tremonton, Utah. During the encounter, a male suspect exited the residence armed with a rifle and opened fire, fatally striking Sergeant Sorensen. Officer Eric Estrada, who arrived as backup, was also killed in the attack. A deputy and a K9 from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot while inside their patrol vehicle.

The suspect was eventually persuaded by bystanders to surrender and was taken into custody. He has been charged with aggravated murder. Sergeant Sorensen served with the department for 16 years and is survived by his wife and three children.
