Police Officer Eric Estrada Killed in Line of Duty During Domestic Call in Tremonton, Utah

Officer Eric Estrada of the Tremonton-Garland Police Department was fatally shot on the evening of August 17, 2025, while responding to repeated 911 hang-up calls regarding a domestic dispute at a residence near 700 North and 200 East in Tremonton, Utah. As Estrada and Sergeant Lee Sorensen engaged with occupants of the residence, a male suspect emerged armed with a rifle and opened fire. Both officers were mortally wounded. A deputy and K9 from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office were also injured in the gunfire but are expected to recover.

The suspect was taken into custody following the arrival of additional law enforcement and the intervention of bystanders. Officer Estrada, 31, had served in law enforcement for eight years, including prior service with the North Park Police Department, Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, and Logan City Police Department.
