Bradley Lund, 8, Dies Following Chatham Daycare Car Crash

On April 28, 2025, a car crash occurred at YNOT Outdoors daycare in Chatham, Illinois, when a black Jeep, driven by a 44-year-old woman from Chatham, entered the gymnasium and exited through the opposite side, striking multiple children inside. Bradley Lund, an 8-year-old boy, sustained multiple blunt force injuries and was hospitalized in Springfield for five weeks following the incident. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed that Lund died on Monday morning, June 2, 2025. Other victims included Ainsley Johnson, 8; Kathryn Corley, 7; Alma Buhnerkempe, 7—all of Chatham—and counselor Rylee Britton, 18, of Springfield, all of whom also died as a result of the crash.

The Illinois State Police (ISP) reported that the driver provided blood samples for toxicology screenings, which tested negative for drugs or alcohol. ISP Director Brendan Kelly stated in May that the crash may have been caused by a medical emergency. The investigation, conducted by the Sangamon County Coroner and ISP, remains ongoing, with no charges filed as of this date. The Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office will review the investigation and issue an update upon its conclusion.
