Cynthia Hemphill Involved in Multi-Vehicle Incident on Highway 65 in Cornish Township

On the evening of September 4, 2025, at approximately 21:53, a traffic incident occurred on northbound Highway 65 at Milepost 140 in Cornish Township, Aitkin County, Minnesota. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford F-550 tow truck was parked on the shoulder, securing an unoccupied Lexus RX. During this time, a 2015 Chevy Captiva, traveling in the same direction, collided with the rear of the Lexus and subsequently overturned into the adjacent ditch.

Among those involved in the incident was Cynthia Rettajo Hemphill, age 63, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She was a passenger in one of the vehicles and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Grand Itasca for medical care. The road surface was reported as wet at the time of the incident, and no alcohol involvement was noted. Emergency response units from the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, Jacobson First Responders, and McGregor Ambulance were on the scene. The incident remains under official documentation and review.
