Eddie Smith Killed in Pedestrian Collision in Hazel Crest, IL – September 15, 2025

On the evening of September 15, 2025, Eddie Smith, a 79-year-old resident of Hazel Crest, Illinois, was fatally injured after being struck by a northbound vehicle near the intersection of 174th Street and Kedzie Avenue. Emergency services arrived on scene around 7:30 p.m. to find Smith suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and rendered aid. No charges have been filed, and the driver has not been taken into custody. The South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
