Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Tooele City: Louise Machado Identified as Victim
On February 22, 2025, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Tooele City police were dispatched to a tragic traffic collision at 490 S. Main Street in Tooele City, Utah. The incident involved a 65-year-old pedestrian, Louise Machado, who was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street. According to reports, Machado was attempting to move out of the roadway following the collision, and the driver remained at the scene. Upon arrival, officers observed bystanders, including medical professionals, providing assistance to Machado until emergency responders took over. Despite these efforts, Machado was transported to a local hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Witnesses reported that Machado had been moving quickly from the Al’s Smoke Shop area across the street, though she was not in a crosswalk at the time of the incident. The officer’s report noted that the dark conditions, combined with Machado’s dark clothing, likely made her difficult to see. The driver, who was heading east off Main Street, stated that Machado appeared suddenly, leaving him with insufficient time to avoid the collision. Following an investigation, the responding officer determined that the incident was an accident and declined to press charges against the driver, emphasizing the challenges of visibility and reaction time in this unfortunate event.
