Tragic Fatal Crash in Illinois Claims Lives of Melissa and Brett Lane, Parents of Five
On April 25, 2025, a catastrophic seven-car crash in La Grange, Illinois, claimed the lives of Melissa Ann Lane, 49, and Brett Lane, 51, both residents of Hinsdale. The couple, parents to five children—Simon, Colin, Quinten, Emily, and James—were among five victims transported to nearby hospitals following the accident, where they were later pronounced deceased. The incident, which occurred at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of 47th Street and Willow Springs Road, also left at least three others injured. The La Grange police, in collaboration with the Major Case Assistance Team’s crash investigation unit, are diligently working to determine the cause, with preliminary reports indicating that a white SUV, traveling at high speed northbound on Willow Springs Road, collided with multiple vehicles, including the Lanes'.
Melissa and Brett Lane were cherished figures in their community, remembered for their remarkable qualities—Brett for his innovative spirit and dedication, and Melissa for her uplifting positivity. Originally from Michigan and California respectively, they met while pursuing engineering degrees at Northwestern University and built a life together in Illinois. Their untimely passing leaves a profound void, felt deeply by their family and neighbors. Visitation is scheduled for April 29, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow on April 30 at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale, offering the community an opportunity to honor their memory.
