Kevin Kain Critically Injured in Fatal Truck and Semi-Trailer Crash in Lee County
On the afternoon of June 9, 2025, a severe collision occurred in Lee County at the intersection of Chicago Road and Route 251, involving a pickup truck and a semi-trailer. The incident resulted in the death of the pickup truck driver, 16-year-old Chasity Stavenhagen of Earlville, and left her passenger, 20-year-old Kevin Kain of West Brooklyn, in critical condition. According to reports from the Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, witnesses observed the pickup truck crossing into the path of the semi-trailer, leading to a broadside impact. Kain was initially transported to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to Rockford, where he remains under medical care.
The semi-trailer driver, a 62-year-old man from Sublette, sustained no injuries and was released from the scene. The crash necessitated the closure of the road for several hours, and authorities have stated that the investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
