On June 14, 2025, a vehicular collision occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 212 and Bowman Street in Stewart, McLeod County, Minnesota. The incident involved a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 70-year-old Randal Charles Kalenberg of Stewart, traveling eastbound, and a 2020 Toyota RAV4, driven by 79-year-old John Frederick Hartjes of Springfield, traveling westbound. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the two vehicles collided under wet road conditions, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The investigation is being handled by District 2200 Mankato, with support from the McLeod County Sheriff's Office, Stewart Fire Department, and Buffalo Lake Ambulance.
Marleen Tauer Hartjes, a 75-year-old passenger in the Toyota RAV4, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Glencoe Hospital for treatment. The driver of the RAV4, John Frederick Hartjes, and an 11-year-old male passenger were uninjured.
