Matthew Manthe Killed in Pedestrian Accident in Kewanee

On the night of July 20, 2025, Matthew P. Manthe, a 51-year-old resident of Kewanee, Illinois, was fatally injured in a pedestrian accident. The incident took place in the 1000 block of West South Street, near OSF HealthCare St. Luke Medical Center, when Manthe was struck by a vehicle operated by a 17-year-old driver, as reported by the Kewanee Police Department.Emergency personnel, including the Kewanee Fire Department, responded promptly at 10:11 p.m., initiating life-saving measures at the scene. Manthe was initially transported to OSF HealthCare St. Luke Medical Center and subsequently airlifted to OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria for advanced treatment. Despite these efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The teenage driver received a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and the Kewanee Police Department, with assistance from the Peoria County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
