Amber Knowles Fatally Struck by Truck in Gurnee, Illinois

On April 2, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Gurnee, Illinois, resulting in the death of 33-year-old Amber Knowles from Mundelein. According to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek, an autopsy conducted on Thursday confirmed that Knowles succumbed to blunt force injuries sustained in a vehicle collision. The accident took place around 8:04 p.m. at the intersection of Delany Road and Sunset Avenue, where Knowles was struck by a Ford E-450 truck while attempting to cross Delany Road outside of a designated crosswalk. Initially, it was reported that the vehicle had fled the scene, prompting an alert to local law enforcement. However, further investigation revealed that the truck had pulled into a nearby business, and the driver cooperated fully with the Gurnee Police Department throughout the inquiry.

The scene was attended by the Gurnee Police and Fire Departments, along with a Lake County sheriff’s deputy who discovered Knowles unresponsive at the location. Despite efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene by Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief James Gramer. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was summoned to conduct a thorough investigation, leading to the closure of Delany Road in both directions from Sunset Avenue to Ryan Road for several hours.
