Nicholas Gauwitz Injured in Tofte Township Car Accident
On August 8, 2025, at 3:36 p.m., a collision occurred on Highway 61 at milepost 88 in Tofte Township, Cook County, Minnesota. A 2013 Toyota Highlander, driven by Jennifer Senn Gauwitz, 46, of Tofte Township, was stopped to make a left turn into a business when it was struck by a 2017 Chevy Silverado, driven by Mitchell Jamie Kerfeld, 32, also of Tofte Township. Nicholas Gene Gauwitz, 47, a passenger in the Toyota, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was evaluated at North Shore Health in Grand Marais. All other occupants, including four passengers in the Chevy Silverado, were similarly evaluated and found to have non-life-threatening injuries.The incident occurred under dry road conditions, and all parties were wearing seat belts with no alcohol involvement reported. The Minnesota State Patrol, assisted by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Northshore Ambulance, North Coast Towing, and J & H Towing, is investigating the cause of the collision.
