Nycholas Spears Killed in Machesney Park Rollover Crash Involving DUI Driver

Nycholas Spears, age 22, was fatally injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash on the evening of August 21, 2025, in Machesney Park, Illinois. The incident occurred on Route 173 east of Mitchell Road, where authorities report that the vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Anthony Moe of Rockton, lost control, struck a curb, and rolled multiple times. Spears, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two additional passengers were hospitalized with unknown injuries, while Moe was uninjured. He has since been charged with reckless homicide and multiple counts of aggravated DUI. The Winnebago County Major Crash Assistance Team is overseeing the ongoing investigation.
