Woman Arrested for Fatal DUI Crash in Washington: Michael Ayers Identified as Victim

On the evening of April 2, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in Washington, claiming the life of 35-year-old Michael Ayers, whose address remains undisclosed. Authorities report that Ayers was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road near the Cherry Tree Shopping Center around 10:30 p.m. He was rushed to OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center in intensive care but succumbed to his injuries hours later. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed that an autopsy conducted on Friday revealed Ayers sustained multiple blunt force injuries, with the investigation into the crash’s circumstances still in progress.

Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy stated that the driver, a woman whose identity has not been released, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and vehicular homicide. The Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office will determine the final charges as the legal process continues.
