Minaben Patel: Victim of Fatal Franklin Car Crash

On May 24, 2025, a vehicular collision occurred at the intersection of Grove and Beaver streets in Franklin, Massachusetts, resulting in the deaths of Minaben Patel, 38, and her daughter, Krisha Patel, 5. Minaben Patel sustained critical injuries in the crash and passed away on June 3, 2025, as reported by the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, with the cause of death pending autopsy results. Her son, also injured in the incident, was a passenger in the family’s sedan, which was struck while en route to his birthday celebration in Blackstone. The suspect, James Blanchard, 21, faces charges of motor vehicle homicide, drunken driving, and negligent operation. Toxicology reports confirmed Blanchard’s blood alcohol level at 0.19, exceeding Massachusetts’ legal limit of 0.08, with evidence of alcohol containers found in his truck.

The Franklin Police Department and Norfolk County District Attorney's Office continue to investigate the incident. Blanchard, a Franklin resident and mechanic, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment, where prosecutors secured a $250,000 bail, citing the severity of the charges and his prior driving record, including an open container violation. His defense requested a reduced bail and electronic monitoring, but the judge upheld the commonwealth’s stance, noting potential escalation to superior court. The next court appearance is scheduled for June 24, 2025. Authorities have expressed formal condolences to the Patel family.
