Andrew Vanhecke Involved in Fatal Fire Truck Rollover in Sandnes Township, Minnesota – September 26, 2025
On September 26, 2025, a fatal rollover crash involving a 2006 fire truck occurred on 490th Street near 160th Avenue in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. The vehicle, operated by 37-year-old Andrew William Vanhecke of Wood Lake, was traveling northbound when it veered off the road and rolled into the west ditch. Road conditions were dry at the time of the incident.
Vanhecke, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Marshall Hospital. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the crash. A passenger, 43-year-old Patrick Steven Remiger, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the hospital. A 6-year-old passenger, Beaux Vanhecke, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is being investigated with assistance from the Yellow Medicine and Lyon County Sheriff's Offices, as well as Cottonwood Fire and Ambulance.
