Evans, an employee of J&A Towing of Belding, was delivering a scrapped forklift to the site alongside another worker using a rollback flatbed truck. Michigan State Police confirmed that the incident occurred while the flatbed was being returned from its ramped position to a level position.

Initial findings indicate that Evans became trapped between the flatbed and the cab of the truck, causing fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
