Mariano Diaz-Pichardo Fatally Struck While Crossing Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst, NY – August 7, 2025
On August 7, 2025, Mariano Diaz-Pichardo, 60, was fatally struck while attempting to cross Sunrise Highway at the intersection of Buffalo Avenue in Lindenhurst, New York. According to police reports, Diaz-Pichardo was walking his bicycle when a Hino box truck attempted to swerve to avoid him but made contact. He was then hit by a Ford F550, resulting in fatal injuries.
Diaz-Pichardo was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead. The drivers of both vehicles involved—Manuel Lucero-Lucero of Bay Shore and Steven Mitchell of Ronkonkoma—were not injured. The Suffolk County Police Department’s Motor Carrier Safety Section conducted safety checks on both vehicles. The investigation remains ongoing.
