Richard Krzysztofiak Killed in Deer Park, Illinois Crash While Attending Disabled Vehicle on January 13, 2026

A fatal roadway incident claimed the life of a 95-year-old man Tuesday afternoon in Deer Park, Illinois, according to Lake County sheriff’s deputies. The collision occurred around 3:15 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Cook and Quentin roads as Richard Krzysztofiak of Palatine was attending to his disabled Honda Accord. Authorities said Krzysztofiak was examining the underside of the vehicle when it was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V.

Krzysztofiak was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV involved was driven by a 30-year-old man from Cary. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigation team continues to examine the circumstances of the crash, including vehicle speed and pending toxicology results. No further details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
