Sunjun July Killed in Downtown Oklahoma City Hotel Shooting Near North Broadway on January 11, 2026

On January 11, 2026, a fatal shooting at a downtown Oklahoma City hotel claimed the life of Sunjun July, a 22-year-old security guard employed at the property. Police said the incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Broadway Avenue and West Sheridan Avenue, following an altercation outside the hotel involving a group of juveniles who had been asked to leave the premises.

Investigators reported that during the confrontation, a 16-year-old suspect produced a firearm and fired multiple shots. July was struck and transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A second hotel employee was assaulted and treated for minor injuries. The suspect was later located nearby, treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and taken into custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
