Kimberley Jespersen Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Salt Lake City on October 9, 2025

In Salt Lake City, Utah, the death of 53-year-old Kimberley Jean Jespersen has led to the arrest of a suspect with a known history of driving under the influence. Jespersen was fatally struck on the night of July 31, 2025, while crossing at State Street and 4500 South. She was initially hit by a hatchback vehicle but remained standing and engaged with the driver before a second vehicle β€” a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck β€” swerved to avoid the scene and hit her. She later died at the hospital.

Authorities have arrested 24-year-old Nathan Michael Portillo, who has been charged with two counts of murder and multiple other offenses, including obstruction of justice, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. According to Murray City Police, Portillo is a habitual DUI offender, and evidence suggests he was likely intoxicated at the time of the incident. He is currently being held without bail due to the severity of the charges and his prior behavior, including previous warrants and flight risk indicators.
